How to Download Videos from Reddit

You may see a funny video on r/animalsbeingderps or something shocking on r/unexpected that you want to download. However, Reddit doesn’t have a download button to save videos on PC or the mobile app.

However, there are workarounds. In this post, we’ll show you how to download videos from Reddit using the following tools:

• Reddit bot
• Video-downloading websites
• Apps
• Browser Extensions

Using Reddit bot

1. Click on the Reddit post containing the video you want to download.
2. In the comment section, type “u/SaveVideo” and click Comment.
   Note: Reddit often bans bots. You can try “u/vredditshare” and “u/savevideobot” in case you don’t get a response for “u/savevideo.”

   

3. Click View Link in the comment shared by the Reddit bot. Sometimes you might get a private message instead of a reply to your comment like the image below. It can take a few seconds to minutes for link generation.

   

4. Once the link opens up on a new page, choose the quality you want to download your video in.

   

Using video-downloading websites

Many websites can download videos from Reddit. While we don’t recommend any, RedditSave is a popular minimalist one.

1. Open the Reddit video and click on the Share button.

   

2. Click the Copy link button to copy the video link to your clipboard.

   

   If using the Reddit app, tap the Share icon on the bottom right of the video, then Copy link.

   

   

3. Open the RedditSave website and paste the link.

   

4. Click Download.
5. Choose the quality you want to download your video in.

   

Using an app

There are a few apps available for downloading videos from Reddit. We’ll show how to do so using a free app called Viddit.

Although Android and iOS users can use this app, there have been reviews that Viddit doesn’t work well on iPhones. In that case, you can use alternatives such s Slide for Reddit.

1. Install Viddit from Google Play.

   

2. Open the Reddit video and tap Share.

   

3. Launch Viddit.

   

4. The Viddit app automatically grabs the video link – you can click Download.

   

Using a browser extension

Many free extensions allow you to download videos from Reddit.

The following tutorial shows you how to use a Chrome (and Firefox) extension called Reddit Video Downloader RVDL.

1. Install Reddit Video Downloader RVDL.

   

2. Log in to your Reddit account and open the post.
3. Right-click on the time or the Redditor’s username. This information is located above the video.

   

4. Select Download Reddit Videos with Sound from the dropdown.

   

5. You will be directed to the Reddit Video Downloader site. Select one of the options to download the video on your computer.
